Seabury CEO, John Mobley is appointed to the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) Advisory Board | | | The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), an association that supports professionals who develop wellness and fitness facilities and services for adults age 50 and over, is pleased to appoint John S. Mobley, Executive Vice President & CEO of Seabury, to the ICAA Advisory Board. As an ICAA Advisory Board Member, Mobley will play an important role in helping to steer the association in its operations and in its role as an active-aging leader. He will also participate in ICAA 2020, an initiative set up to create a vision for the future of the active-aging field.
"I am honored to be appointed as a member of the ICAA Advisory Board, especially since Seabury's mission aligns very closely with ICAA's mission, to embrace a 'Wellness for Life' philosophy. We continually work to advance successful aging in all our programs and services at Seabury and in our outreach programs to the greater Hartford community. Seabury, an active life care community, has a strong culture of fitness and wellness, incorporating all the dimensions of wellness: physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and vocational. Mobley adds, "Pioneering programs that infuse physical fitness with cognitive fitness, good nutrition, and maintenance of social relationships in one's life go a long way in maintaining and retaining one's active independent lifestyle and peak performance for successful aging. I look forward to my association with ICAA with great enthusiasm, commitment, and purpose."
"We are excited to welcome John Mobley to the ICAA Advisory Board," says ICAA CEO, Colin Milner. "John is working to change the way we age in society by promoting healthy, active aging. This new model for aging supports health, well-being, and quality of life for older adults, so they can continue to thrive and offer their ideas, skills, and wisdom to the world." Adds Milner, "We are eager to benefit from John's valuable advice in the coming year, as the association keeps striving to advance active aging."

How to Avoid the Holiday Hangover | | | Will holiday spending leave consumers budgets in the red? Not necessarily, if consumers use the American Bankers Association Education Foundation's holiday spending tips as a guide. Consumers spreading holiday cheer should keep in mind that January bills are only weeks away, explains bank president Mark Griffin. Simple planning could be the cure-all for the dreaded holiday hangover and help to keep the debt of Christmas at bay.
To help consumers spend within their means and have a financially happy New Year, Windsor Federal Savings offers the following tips:
*Develop a budget. Before you start your holiday shopping, develop a realistic holiday budget. Be as detailed as possible and include items like postage, gift wrap, greeting cards, decorations, food, travel expenses and charitable contributions.
*Make a list and check it twice. Keep your gift list limited to family and close friends, noting how much you want to spend on each. Be creative and send greeting cards or handwritten letters of appreciation to those outside of your list.
*Shop for bargains. Avoid shopping while rushed or under pressure which can lead to overspending. Always comparison shop and re-evaluate your purchase to make sure that it is within your budget.
*Use credit wisely. Limit using credit for holiday spending. If you must use credit, use only one card, preferably the one with the lowest interest rate. It s a good idea to pick a date to pay off your holiday credit card bills. Remember to review statements carefully for unauthorized charges. We at Windsor Federal Savings are committed to helping our customers save for the future and are here to help you meet your financial goals. For additional holiday spending tips visit the Smart Holiday Spending Center at www.abaef.com.

Pabian & Russell LLC Selects Retrievex to Manage Its Records. | | | 'Our law firm was interested in taking advantage of the value added benefits included in the Retrievex records management program. The Retrievex client service team provided our group with a demonstration of their web product, which they customized to the needs of our firm. In addition, they designed a program that specifically manages our original wills & estate documents. Our attorneys were pleased to hear that these critical records would reside in their state-of-the-art vault, complete with an FM-200 fire suppression system, humidity & temperature control. Most importantly, the Retrievex team handled all facets of our transition and made sure that 100% of our inventory was accounted for. Our dedicated customer service team provided us with updates throughout the duration of the transfer of our inventory. In addition, they expedited the account set up process, which included account customization, website training, and a drop off of supplies and barcodes. Steven Yanofsky, V.P. of Finance at Seabury, Named CFO of the Year | | | In other Seabury news...
Steven Yanofsky, V.P. of Finance (CFO) at Seabury, a Life Care community in Bloomfield, CT, was named the CFO of the year in the category of Small Private Company by the Hartford Business Journal. He earned his B.A. in Mathematics and his MBA at the University of Maine. He obtained his certification as an Aging Services Professional from the University of North Texas. Mr. Yanofsky was appointed to his position at Seabury in 1992, when the community opened, and at that time he set up all the components of the accounting department. He now is responsible for the financial stability of four corporations at Seabury.
When asked by the Hartford Business Journal what are the top challenges you face in your role as CFO, Steve said:
"In this tough economy, obviously our number one challenge is to work toward continuing the financial viability of Seabury. Church Home of Hartford, Inc, our parent corporation, has been in business since 1876, and has always provided quality services and care. Historically, they have been financially sound. That legacy must be preserved by prudent financial stewardship. Equally important is to secure financial strength by responding to the changing needs of our residents. The key to our business is to maintain high occupancy. Seabury does this very well and maintains a significant wait list. Responding to our residents' concerns is the force behind our high occupancy rate."
Please join Seabury in congratulating Steven Yanofsky, 2009 CFO of the year on this outstanding achievement.
